Delhi:1, Marty:0. Or, really glad to be in Bangkok

Since finishing the school year in June I've only had three or four debilitating headaches; I hold New Delhi personally responsible for two of them. On our arrival and again the night before departing I was laid out by what can most accurately be described as a vindictive gnome loose behind my eyes. Elizabeth, meanwhile, got a cold that we're hoping doesn't turn into bronchitis. Both might have been influenced by our less-than-five-star train ride.

Can you tell...I'm psyched -- the upper bunk!

Maybe it was dehydration. Or perhaps my distaste for haggling with merchants (Z seems unfazed by this). Or maybe it's the thousand New Delhi rickshaws that lie in wait, revving their engines, oblivious to any semblance of organization in the streets of the city. It also didn't help that as we rode to the Red Fort in a rickshaw, a small child smacked Elizabeth in the face with a hand apparently doused in pepper.

In any case, we're glad to be done with Delhi for now but a little sad to have left India.

  1. At many points during your journey so far, I have been glad not to be with you. I stick to that gladness! I hope the two of you feel better soon. No bronchitis! The one advantage of being slapped in the face with pepper is that hot stuff does clear the lungs... Be careful out there.

  2. Hm, unfortunately I got the cold after, not before, the pepper-slap. But it sure did clear the sinuses, and the tear ducts, and so on. Otherwise it was great to go careening through the alleys of the old city in a rickshaw, peering at all the food and hopping out to sample particularly yummy-looking items.
